The powerful desktop version, cross-platform synchronization, and extensive plugins are the main reasons. I'm not sure what AnkiPro is, but I would like to share why I use Anki. But instead they rely purely on deception to trick users. It would be a different story if these other apps were actually competing on features or UI/UX. Their entire business model is to rely on uninformed people thinking they are buying the real Anki. In addition to all the above, I would also add that these copycats are run by people who are deliberately trying to trick/scam their users. Some might be missing features like cloze, multiple cards per note, image/audio support or even spaced repetition. Some don’t allow you to change the settings or have limited settings. On the feature parity side, some of these apps are much more limited. Some will allow you to export your data, if you pay them, other will not allow you to export the data at all. Some will literally wait until you’ve created enough cards, and charge you if you want to review more than x per day. Some of them will wait until you’ve created lots of cards/reviews and then they start charging you. Some of them will keep your data hostage. Do they actually have feature parity with the real Anki?.I have seen posts before about Anki "copycats" however I don't get what's so bad about apps like xyz Users that routinely delete their posts once they receive an answer might be excluded from participating on the sub. Posts that are off-topic will be removed.
